Let it start like this. I had always wanted to host a website. The question to ask now would be why?

Why do people want to host a website for nothing…Could it be one of these reasons…

1.       Want to get famous

2.       Want to create a space of one’s own

3.       Just happen to have a lot of free time

4.       Curiosity or rather should I say thirst for knowledge, just want to learn the W3 network

5.       Terribly lonely, desperate to make it big.

Well my reason had to be something very weird.

 

I had always used our “almighty” Google to search for anything I needed. When I was in college things always ended in some underground site offering pirated stuff, or forums with limited access and usability..Often used in vain for discussions rather deliberately thrust upon or useless.

Time flies and so did for me.

The “oh ,I’ve got a job” as with most people, gave me a air-conditioned room with comphy cushioned chairs,a workstation with a hair-raising high-speed dedicated connection with unlimited cyber café admin-rights and a secluded corner where my boss wouldn’t find me…..what was missing , was what had long abandoned my routine………time !

What the hell if I cannot even get time to type in a site address in my browser..leave alone surfing the net. With a dedicated line and a core 2 Duo even reading a rss feed was like a nightmare. Laziness ,like a lap dog evidently got the better of me,and questions like…shucks! Again what was my yahoo password..or do I again have to login?????..often ended in one ASK….. ”Isnt  there a site which will give me all I want in one place..which will require only a few clicks to get my daily surfing quota match the ruins of what was once called FREE TIME….

There was no one…hence “Almighty google” again came to the rescue when a misdirected search query got me to a “promising” website offering 200 MB of free webspace and a free subdomain….i guess it was a DOT biz DOT ly account that I created.

Over the next two months I tasted almost all the free servers available including a few in japanese and Russian.(Gosh I wont forget how I deleted the japanese sub directory. Are the words “save” and “delete” in japanese , anagrams….no offense…it’s a  great language ..).A few of my friends registered in the forums I had hosted so many times that now when I ask them to join my forum ,threaten me with legal clauses supported by slangs that definitely would put dictionary.com to test.

Upload..customisation..deletion was all I did in the free time I had(feel sad for the girls I neglected !).

 

And then…..something else caught my eyes……..150m.com….offering great support and webspace ..with groovy data transfer “nuggets”….This was what I wanted,I said to myself and …ahem….jumped in.In the next few days my official mail had bulk sent  invites….”hi I have created a website,please join..blah blah blah ….even my boss admired my attempt when I opened before him my new URL….homepage,contacts,forum…and then it happened……….A pop up.I have never hated a pop up so much before….’seducing females waiting for you…just click on the link to get started’…..what the..*&^*#$%$…..get started…inside office…what was I supposed to do…watch a porn…???..these free-hosting people are nuts…what shame….i fiddled with the pop up for a while…those social workers had even embedded a link to the CROSS button giving me multiple seducing pop ups everytime I tried to close one.

Such promises from a server  which doesn’t even get a proper Ad for itself. A hard reboot and  two glasses of water got me back to the right track…Next attempt….delete(thank god I recognized the delete button this time)

 

For the next two weeks I didn’t try for something else. Google kept showing me sponsored links to several other free web hosting services but I was through.I wouldn’t fall into the trap again,until now…

 

Own-free-website (recommended by a girl..shame !) and wordpress gave me all I wanted.Not getting into the technical details…In one word…its great, is still providing me the best of the lot.Dont know if I missed something better,but I do get all my rss feeds delivered directly to my website, games beautifully embedded(thanks to widgets)and Ads I can proudly show my users.
